Job Title: English GCSE Lecturer

Location: London

Contract Type: Hourly Paid

Salary: £35 per hour

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and engaging English GCSE Lecturer to deliver high-quality teaching to students preparing for their GCSE English Language and/or Literature qualifications. The successful candidate will inspire learners, support academic progress, and help students develop confidence in reading, writing, and critical thinking.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, structured lessons aligned with GCSE English curriculum (AQA, Edexcel, or equivalent)
  • Teach English Language and/or Literature to a diverse range of learners
  • Assess, monitor, and track student progress, providing timely feedback
  • Prepare students for exams, coursework, and assessments
  • Differentiate teaching approaches to support varying abilities and learning needs
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, and achievement
  • Provide academic and pastoral support to students where required
  • Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement of teaching materials
  • Participate in departmental meetings, training, and quality assurance processes

Requirements

Essential:

  • Degree in English or a related subject
  • Teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, CertEd, or equivalent)
  • Experience teaching GCSE English (Language and/or Literature)
  • Strong knowledge of current GCSE specifications and assessment methods
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to motivate and engage learners of varying abilities

Desirable:

  • Experience teaching in FE colleges, adult education, or alternative provision
  • Experience supporting resit learners or students with additional needs
  • Familiarity with online or blended learning platforms
