SEN Teaching Assistant – KS2 (Year 3)
Are you an experienced, nurturing SEN Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding full-time role in a calm, supportive and well-resourced school? This non-denominational community junior school in Barnet is seeking a confident and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join their Year 3 team from February 2026.
Situated on the northern edge of Hampstead Garden Suburb, the school benefits from a spacious, green setting, screened from surrounding roads and houses. With a large field, two playgrounds and excellent facilities – including a new covered, heated swimming pool – it is a genuinely wonderful place to work, where staff are valued and pupils are supported to thrive.
The role
This is an in-class SEN support role, working alongside the class teacher to support a group table of SEN pupils, rather than providing exclusive 1:1 support. The class includes several pupils with additional needs, including EHCPs, autism, global developmental delay, emotional needs, language difficulties, possible ADHD and low emotional resilience. Importantly, there is no challenging behaviour – the children are described as lovely, responsive and eager to engage.
Key responsibilities include:
• Supporting pupils academically and emotionally throughout the school day
• Breaking learning into manageable steps using modelling, scaffolding and whiteboards
• Providing reassurance, praise and positive reinforcement
• Supporting emotional regulation, resilience and wellbeing
• Lunchtime support, including inclusive play and games
• Working proactively and collaboratively within the classroom team
The ideal candidate will:
• Have previous school-based SEN experience (essential)
• Be confident supporting pupils with autism, emotional needs, ADHD traits and language difficulties
• Demonstrate a strong understanding of child development and emotional regulation
• Be calm, nurturing, well-organised and proactive
• Be able to gently challenge and support pupils to achieve their academic potential
This is an excellent opportunity to join a caring, forward-thinking school with a strong team ethos and a genuine commitment to inclusion.
