About the Role Balfour Beatty Power T&D are seeking an accomplished Head of Commercial to guide and strengthen the commercial performance across a significant portfolio of projects in Scotland. The Head of Commercial will hold full accountability for commercial performance across a major and growing portfolio. The role is responsible for setting and delivering the commercial strategy, ensuring robust governance, and identifying opportunities to maximise value. The remit spans cost and income management, risk mitigation, and driving sustainable margin improvement, alongside building strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. The position also plays a critical role in leading commercial negotiations, resolving complex issues and disputes, supporting bids and tenders, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement across the commercial function. What you'll be doing
Lead and be accountable for commercial performance across a large, complex portfolio of Power Transmission & Distribution projects Own, develop and deliver the commercial strategy for the portfolio, contributing to wider regional and business unit objectives Drive sustainable revenue, margin improvement and commercial value creation, while proactively managing and mitigating risk Provide strong commercial governance, assurance and forecasting, identifying issues and opportunities early Build and manage effective, strategic relationships with customers, partners and internal stakeholders to deliver high levels of satisfaction Lead complex commercial negotiations, support major bids and tenders, and resolve high‑value or sensitive disputes Oversee commercial audit, compliance and continuous improvement, ensuring alignment with legal, contractual and business requirements Lead, develop and deploy high‑performing commercial teams across multiple projects, fostering a culture of quality, accountability and continuous improvement Champion best practice, using LEAN and digital approaches to enhance efficiency, control and insight Act as a visible leader and role model, demonstrating Balfour Beatty’s values and enabling a high‑performance culture across the portfolio
Who we're looking for
A senior commercial leader operating at, or ready to step into, a Head of Commercial or equivalent role, with accountability for complex, multi‑project portfolios Experience applying commercial leadership within Power Transmission & Distribution or other major infrastructure environments, such as Rail, Road, Water, Utilities or Aviation, where skills are transferable to a regulated, delivery‑focused setting Demonstrable capability in shaping and delivering commercial strategy, managing risk, and driving sustainable commercial outcomes at scale A people‑focused leader with the ability to build, develop and inspire high‑performing commercial teams across multiple projects and locations Comfortable leading complex negotiations, resolving commercial issues and disputes, and influencing senior stakeholders both internally and externally Chartered (or actively working towards Chartership) with RICS, ICES or CIOB, with a clear commitment to Continuing Professional Development Commercially astute, collaborative and outcomes‑focused, with the judgement to balance value creation, governance and risk A visible leader and role model who sets high standards, champions best practice and contributes positively to a culture of high performance and continuous improvement
