This role is ideal for engineers with experience in facilities management, building services, or critical environments, who enjoy fault finding, planned maintenance, and maintaining high-performance building systems. Working within a collaborative shift team, you will play a key role in ensuring operational reliability, system performance, and service excellence across a flagship site. The Role As a Shift Technician, you will be responsible for delivering both Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across a wide range of electrical and mechanical (M&E) building services systems. You will gain hands-on experience with: - Electrical and mechanical plant systems - HVAC and building services systems - Building Management Systems (BMS) - Fault finding and diagnostic activities - Live workplace / critical environment operations This is a shift-based, safety-critical role focused on maintaining uptime, efficiency, and compliance within a professional workplace environment. Key Responsibilities Maintenance & Engineering Operations - Deliver PPM across all building systems - Carry out reactive maintenance and fault finding - Maintain electrical and mechanical plant reliability - Monitor and operate BMS systems - Diagnose faults and implement effective repairs - Ensure work is completed in line with KPIs and SLAs Compliance & Safety - Follow all Health & Safety procedures and Safe Systems of Work (SSOW) - Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements - Support incident response and emergency procedures - Promote a strong safety-first culture and risk awareness Team Collaboration - Work closely with engineering teams and workplace stakeholders - Maintain clear and effective shift handovers and communication - Support training, mentoring, and knowledge sharing - Deliver a professional, customer-focused service Continuous Improvement - Identify opportunities to improve system reliability and performance - Support initiatives that enhance efficiency, resilience, and sustainability - Maintain accurate records using CAFM / digital maintenance systems Skills & Experience Essential - City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering - Experience in facilities maintenance, building services, or similar environments - Strong understanding of M&E systems (electrical, mechanical, HVAC) - Experience using BMS or digital monitoring systems - Proven fault-finding and problem-solving ability - Ability to work effectively in a shift-based team environment Desirable - HV/LV Authorised Person (AP15) (training available) - 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) or mechanical equivalent - HNC / HND in Engineering - Confined Space / Pressure Systems AP - IOSH or Health & Safety qualification What’s on Offer - Competitive salary + shift allowance + benefits package - Clear career progression into Senior Engineer / AP roles - Ongoing training and professional development - Exposure to modern, technology-enabled building systems - Opportunity to gain Authorised Person (AP) certifications - Stable role within a forward-thinking organisation - Supportive, collaborative engineering culture Working Pattern - 12-hour rotating shift pattern (days & nights) - Site-based role in a modern workplace environment - Flexibility for overtime and additional support when required
