Job Description
About Our Client
Our client is a highly respected, well-established organisation operating across the built environment and major projects sector, with a strong footprint throughout the UK. They are recognised for their involvement in complex, high-value programmes and their ability to deliver commercially robust solutions across large-scale, mission-critical developments.
The business works across a diverse portfolio of major infrastructure, regeneration, and complex built environment projects, often operating within multi-stakeholder and highly regulated environments. Their work is technically demanding, commercially sophisticated, and delivered in collaboration with public and private sector clients.
What They Are Looking For
Our client is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to support the delivery of major projects within the built environment sector, based in Edinburgh. The role sits within an established commercial team and reports to senior commercial leadership, working closely with project directors, client stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams.
This position has been created to support sustained growth and a strong pipeline of secured work across large, complex programmes. The successful candidate will take ownership of key commercial workstreams, contribute to governance and reporting, and play a pivotal role in managing risk, cost control, and commercial outcomes.
This role will suit a confident, commercially astute senior professional who enjoys operating at both strategic and delivery levels, balancing detailed commercial management with senior stakeholder engagement.
Why This Role Is Unique
This role offers exposure to some of the most complex and high-profile projects in the built environment sector, providing genuine career-defining experience. You will have the opportunity to influence commercial strategy across major programmes while maintaining visibility with senior leadership.
The position offers a clear pathway toward Associate Director or Commercial Lead roles, making it ideal for a Senior Quantity Surveyor looking to step into broader strategic responsibility within a stable, forward-thinking organisation.
Responsibilities
- Commercial management of major built environment and infrastructure projects
- Preparation and management of cost plans, forecasts, and CVRs
- Contract administration and commercial governance under relevant forms of contract
- Management of risk, change control, and cost reporting processes
- Procurement strategy support and supply chain commercial management
- Assessment and agreement of variations and final accounts
- Providing commercial advice to clients and internal stakeholders
- Supporting project directors with financial and commercial reporting
- Contributing to business improvement and best-practice initiatives
Criteria for the Role
- Significant experience operating as a Quantity Surveyor on major or complex projects
- Strong background within the built environment, infrastructure, or large-scale construction sectors
- Excellent commercial and contractual knowledge
- Confident communicator with strong stakeholder management skills
- Ability to operate autonomously while contributing to wider commercial strategy
- Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
- Professional accreditation (RICS or equivalent) preferred
What’s On Offer
The role offers a salary of up to £70,000, depending on experience, alongside a comprehensive benefits package.
You’ll be joining an organisation that offers long-term career stability, structured progression to Associate Director level and beyond, and exposure to major, career-defining projects. Flexible working arrangements and strong professional development support are also available.
