SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistant

Are you a resilient, compassionate Teaching Assistant with experience supporting secondary-aged young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?

Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with a range of secondary schools and specialist provisions across Nottinghamshire, who are seeking SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistants to provide targeted support to pupils who require additional help to engage with learning and school life.

The Role

As an SEN / SEMH Teaching Assistant, you may be supporting pupils who:

Have SEMH needs, trauma backgrounds, or challenging behaviour

Require 1:1 or small-group support

Have EHCPs and personalised learning plans

Struggle with emotional regulation, engagement, or confidence

You will work closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams to help pupils access the curriculum and develop positive relationships within school.

Key Responsibilities

Provide 1:1 or small-group support in and out of the classroom

Support pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement

Implement strategies outlined in EHCPs and behaviour plans

Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils

Encourage independence, resilience and positive behaviour

Support learning across a range of subjects

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome applications from candidates with:

Experience working with SEN and/or SEMH pupils (schools, PRUs, alternative provision, youth work, care or support roles)

A calm, patient and resilient approach

Strong communication and relationship-building skills

The ability to manage behaviour positively and consistently

A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people

Relevant qualifications (Level 2/3 TA, CACHE, Supporting Teaching & Learning, psychology, youth work, etc.) are desirable but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
