SEMH Teaching Assistant – Full Time Teaching Personnel are looking to appoint a committed and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to support students across KS2, KS3 and KS4 who present with a range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Pupils may experience challenges such as anxiety, low self-esteem, trauma-related behaviours, attachment difficulties, emotional dysregulation, oppositional behaviour, and barriers to learning linked to social or environmental factors. You will play a key role in helping young people rebuild confidence, regulate their emotions, and engage positively in their education. Key Responsibilities Provide one-to-one and small group support tailored to students with SEMH needs. Assist teaching staff in delivering an inclusive and engaging learning environment. Implement strategies to support emotional regulation, de-escalation and behaviour management. Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage participation and progress. Support pupils in developing social skills, resilience and positive coping strategies. Monitor behaviour, record observations and provide feedback to teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams. Contribute to individual learning plans, behaviour plans and multi-agency meetings. Promote positive attitudes towards learning and help pupils re-engage with education. Provide support during transitions between classes or activities. Requirements Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs (school-based or alternative settings such as youth work, mentoring, sports coaching, residential care, or PRUs). Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to remain calm, patient and consistent. Confidence using de-escalation techniques and supportive behaviour approaches. A resilient, compassionate attitude and commitment to making a difference. Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply through Teaching Personnel).
