Job Title: PMLD Teaching Assistant (Special School)
Location: Brent, North West London

Contract: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 3:30pm
Salary: £90 to £95 per day

A respected Special School in the London Borough of Brent is seeking a compassionate, reliable and committed PMLD Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities.

Brent schools benefit from strong specialist SEN provision and well-established multidisciplinary teams. This role is suited to a Teaching Assistant who is confident supporting pupils with complex learning, physical, sensory and medical needs within a structured and nurturing environment.

You will work closely with SEN teachers, therapists and support staff to deliver a pupil-centred approach that prioritises communication, sensory engagement, wellbeing and independence.

Key Responsibilities:
Provide specialist 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with PMLD, in line with EHCPs and personalised learning programmes
Support pupils with complex physical needs, including mobility, feeding and personal care, maintaining dignity, safety and safeguarding at all times
Assist with sensory-based and experiential learning activities, including the use of sensory rooms and specialist equipment
Support the use of AAC strategies such as Makaton, PECS, communication aids and sensory cues
Work collaboratively with class teachers, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and other professionals
Observe, monitor and record pupil engagement and progress, contributing to reviews and multi-agency meetings
Create a calm, structured and nurturing environment that supports emotional regulation, comfort and positive relationships
Follow safeguarding, health and safety and moving and handling procedures in line with school policies
Qualifications and Skills:
Experience supporting children or young people with PMLD, SLD or complex SEND in a special school or similar setting is highly desirable
Strong understanding of person-centred and holistic SEN practice
Patient, resilient and empathetic, with confidence responding to both physical and emotional needs
Comfortable working within a multidisciplinary team and following specialist care and education plans
Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Health and Social Care or a related area is desirable but not essential
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one
