Our client, a well‑established organisation in the defence and advanced engineering sector, is looking for a Mechanical Engineering Manager to guide and support a skilled engineering team. The Role

As Mechanical Engineering Manager, you will lead the mechanical engineering function within a defence‑focused business unit. You will play a key role in shaping, delivering, and sustaining mechanical and electromechanical products across their full lifecycle — from early concept and design through manufacture and in‑service support.

This role combines technical leadership with people development, focusing on team capability, reliable delivery, and continuous improvement across several programmes.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and support the Mechanical Engineering team to achieve high performance, engagement, and professional growth
• Plan and coordinate engineering resources, including recruitment, training, and long‑term workforce development
• Oversee engineering outputs such as designs, analyses, technical documentation, and compliance activities
• Ensure programmes meet agreed requirements for quality, schedule, cost, and technical performance
• Encourage continuous improvement in engineering processes, tools, and standards
• Collaborate with the wider business and contribute to strategic engineering initiatives

Essential Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience
• UK Citizenship as Security Clearance required for the role
• Demonstrated experience delivering mechanical or electromechanical systems within defence, aerospace, or maritime environments
• Strong understanding of mechanical design, analysis, manufacturing methods, and engineering standards
• Experience leading engineering teams and nurturing technical capability
• Confidence in reviewing and approving engineering designs, drawings, and analyses
• Clear communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders

Desirable Skills

• Chartered Engineer status
• Experience with CAD/PLM tools such as CREO, Windchill, or similar systems
• Knowledge of REACH/RoHS, FEA, CFD, and manufacturing processes
