Job Title: Mechanical Engineer
Location: Cambridge Science Park - onsite role
Shift: Monday- Friday 8 hours per day, 40 Hours per week
Duration: 18 Month Agency Contract (Inside IR35)
Pay: £28-30 per hour (negotiable based on experience)
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Typical Day in the Role
Design, source, assemble and test mechanical systems required to support the project. Interactively take and develop requirements from the team to find appropriate solutions in a collaborative environment. The team is agile and priorities and tasks can change rapidly.

The ideal candidate will have a can-do and open-minded attitude and be prepared to work within a rapidly changing research environment, while simultaneously taking a rigorous and systematic approach to design and debug with high attention to detail. They will be able to envisage, architect, explore multiple designs, and then take a hands-on approach to creating prototypes and proof-of-concepts. They will be able to work with researchers both in photonics and other related fields (such as optics, electronics, networking, machine learning and computer science), feeding back results and experience as well as learning about, considering, and understanding the additional constraints to finding good solutions to difficult problems.
Qualifications
Required:
· Expert Solidworks including PDM
· Significant experience in the design and implementation of motion systems requiring sub micrometre accuracy and alignment
· Hands-on experience with methods of fabrication to include light machining and 3D printing
· Experience of tolerancing and specifications for production
Desirable:
· Familiarity with optical systems including free space optics, waveguide/fibre optics, monolithic optical design.
· CAM for CNC machining
· Simulation tools (preferably Ansys)
Qualifications
8+ years related technical engineering experience:
· OR Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years related technical engineering experience
· OR Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related technical engineering experience
· OR Doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 1+ years related technical engineering experience
· OR equivalent experience
