Were looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a leading engineering team based in Derby!Were specifically seeking engineers with experience designing bespoke machinery used in packaging, food processing, conveyors, or robotic systems within production or process environments. This is a hands-on, project-led role where youll take ownership of mechanical designs from concept through to commissioning. Each machine you design is high-value, worth approximately £350,000+, and has a real impact in live manufacturing settings. Youll be working in a modern, clean, and highly organised facility an environment designed to help engineers excel.This is a Full-Time, Permanent position offering excellent career growth opportunities!What youll be doingLead mechanical engineering projects from initial concept through to on-site commissioningDesign mechanical components, mechanisms, and assemblies for packaging machinesCreate accurate 3D models and detailed engineering drawings using SolidWorksDraft User Requirement Specifications (URS) and Design Specifications (DS)Manage Bills of Materials (BOMs) and all supporting technical documentationCollaborate with subcontractors and support procurement effortsDevelop and test prototypes; troubleshoot and resolve design issuesEnsure all machines meet safety and compliance standardsProduce operator manuals, maintenance guides, and documentation packsHoursFlexible day shifts (38 hours per week, Monday-Friday)Monday-Thursday: choice of 7am-3:30pm / 7:30am-4pm / 8am-4:30pm / 8:30am-5pmFriday: choice of 7am-1pm / 7:30am-1:30pm / 8am-2pm / 8:30am-2:30pm (early finish!)Pay£35,000 - £45,000 per annum (Depending on Experience) Skills/Experience RequiredMinimum 3 years experience designing special-purpose machinery, ideally in packaging, food production or Automation Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related fieldAdvanced proficiency in SolidWorks (or similar 3D CAD software)Strong understanding of mechanical systems, materials and manufacturing methods Experience producing CAD drawings, BOMs, and technical documentationProven ability to develop prototypes, solve engineering problems and meet deadlinesExcellent organisation, communication, and team-working skillsBenefits 33 days holiday (including bank holidays) Company pensionCompetitive salary Free on-site parkingDay shifts with no weekendsFree fruit, tea & coffeeMonthly prize draws Early Friday finishFlexible start times New modern facilityEssentialAll applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK (sponsorship not provided).All applicants must be able to commute to Derby.What to do nextIf youre interested in this role, please apply and we will be in touch!Modus Personnel are acting as an employment agency on behalf of our client.
