Manufacturing Engineer / NPI Process Engineer Manufacturing Engineer required for a long term contract Peterborough (Min 12 Months, likely to become ongoing though). £39.00 FCSA Umbrella (Role is deemed inside IR35) £28.00 paye Office Based 5 days PW in Peterborough
The Manufacturing Engineer is expected to function as a specialist with respect to a specific technical phase of an increase in production significantly over the next 12-18 mths the process improvement function and which generally falls within the area of Assembly of Machinery
Work assignments may be specialised in nature but may also be broad based with coordination between other staff personnel to complete a larger project.
Evaluate projects to define desired results and determine logical approaches.
Evaluates such NPI factors as cost, assembly, equipment, space, etc. as well as other information needed to determine requirements.
Prepares feasibility studies for appropriateness and cost effectiveness and submits recommendations accordingly.
Results contribute to the effective management decisions in determining the most efficient processes, methods, machinery, tools, equipment, services and systems needed in the manufacture of product.
Actual work assignments may be typified as follows:
Developing, analysing and managing Manufacturing/ Assembly / NPI Projects. Lead manufacturing engineering deliverables across all NPI gateways. Own readiness reviews and ensure ME inputs are approved prior to each gateway. Working with facility Manufacturing Engineers to ensure new processes work seamlessly with the existing manufacturing processes. Deliver process design, PFMEA, control plans, standard work and documentation. Manage tooling, fixtures, and equipment from specification to commissioning. Support prototype, pilot, and validation build phases, ensuring issues are resolved between gateways. Collaborate with Product Engineering on Design for Manufacturing and change management. Support PPAP, capability studies, risk management, and launch readiness metrics. Act as Manufacturing Engineering lead for programme governance, technical reviews, and gateway approval sign‑off. Strong NPI, programme delivery, or launch engineering experience in automotive or similar. Knowledge of engine assembly, machining, or precision manufacturing processes. Proven delivery within gated NPI processes (automotive preferred). Strong PFMEA, control plan, statistical validation, and problem‑solving capability. Excellent stakeholder and technical leadership skills. Leading, developing and supporting timely Design for Manufacture Best Practices, Operation Excellence Process Validation Best Practices and Lean Operation Excellence and Manufacturing Best Practices. Engaging in creative problem solving to address operational issues including: efficiency improvements, process bottlenecks, quality concerns. (APQP/PPAP experience Desirable) Working with internal and external suppliers to develop and manage projects to ensure efficient and cost- effective systems and processes to produce quality products. Essential Skills
Previous experience within something associated or very similar to Manufacturing of High Value, Low Volume manufactured products preferred Demonstratable experience in all areas related within NPI Planning, Increased work capacities, whilst going through an increase in production over a relatively short period of time Process Improvement, Process Optimisation, Design, Develop, and implement Manufacturing Systems. Strong Project management experience & able to demonstrate previous project where production has been significantly increased in volume APQP/PPAP interpretation & recommendations related to Workforce/Labour allocation Demonstrable improvements on Processes & Process optimisation This position encompasses process improvement, Process Optimisation, tooling, plant engineering, supplier relationship building, releasing, machine shop, fabrication, assembly, etc. wherever a specific technical assignment may be needed.
Adheres to established standards, policies and practices relating to quality, cost reduction, safety, ergonomics, etc. in performing assigned duties.
This role is inside IR35, and has a pay rate of £39 /hr FCSA Umbrella depending upon experience and qualifications Paye also available (c.£28.00)
