SSQ are partnering with a leading UK retailer to recruit a Commercial Legal Counsel into its legal team. This role reports into the Head of Corporate and Commercial Law and offers the opportunity to work closely with a wide range of business functions, providing clear, practical and commercially focused legal advice.

This is an excellent opportunity for 4PQE lawyer looking to build on their in-house or private practice experience within a collaborative and forward-thinking environment, supporting a variety of commercial and strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Providing clear, commercially focused legal advice across UK and Ireland matters, including contracts, competition, intellectual property and data protection
• Reviewing, drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts, managing matters from inception to completion
• Supporting negotiations by advising on legal risk, deal structure and commercial strategy
• Handling contentious matters, disputes and day-to-day contract management queries
• Supporting the business through regulatory changes and advising on compliance and best practice
• Delivering training sessions to colleagues on legal and contractual topics
• Building strong relationships with stakeholders across multiple business areas including commercial, IT, procurement and finance
• Supporting continuous improvement within the legal function to enhance efficiency and delivery

Candidate Requirements

• Qualified solicitor with a minimum of four years’ post-qualification experience in commercial law
• Strong experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, ideally within IT, retail or mobile sectors
• Experience gained in-house, in private practice, or a combination of both
