Role Title: Investment Risk Reviewer

Division: RIM - Specialist Support

About the Role

The Investment Risk reviewer is a crucial part of Rathbones' first line of defence, providing oversight of portfolio suitability. To achieve this, the team conducts ongoing quality control reviews to ensure compliance with internal standards and regulatory requirements. This includes portfolio exception reviews (APRs), MiFID II checks, investigating client complaints, examining performance exceptions, and assessing due diligence notes.

Where deviations occur between the client's portfolio and their agreed mandate, Investment Management teams document the reason and remediation plan. The Investment Risk team reviews documented exceptions to confirm accuracy, feasibility, and client awareness.

Support the front office with portfolio suitability queries, training and technical assistance.

Ensure client records provide clear and comprehensive justification for the suitability of recommended transactions and positions. Proactively delivers constructive feedback where standards are not met and collaborate effectively with colleagues to promote best practices.

• Investigation of client complaints
• Performance exception reviews
• Security due diligence note reviews
• Providing feedback to Investment teams with regards to reviews conducted by the Investment Risk in a clear and concise manner.
• Providing challenge to the front office on exception rationales and suitability judgements when appropriate
• Escalate issues when appropriate.
• Provide training in respect of portfolio suitability to the front office and other parts of Rathbones as required.

About you

• Numerically accurate, high attention to detail, able to use Microsoft Excel to a high standard.
• Good writing skills, able to communicate effectively and provide written feedback to colleagues
• An ability to build and maintain relationships with key contacts
• Good understanding of the UK Regulatory framework (desirable)
• Knowledge of suitability requirements (desirable)
• Understanding of the service and investments provided by Rathbones, including different types of investment assets and the different types of clients Rathbones deal with (desirable)
• An understanding of Rathbones Client Vulnerability policy
• An understanding of different types of tax wrappers such as ISAs, general investment accounts, SIPPs etc. (desirable)
