Job Description

A Tier 1 contractor delivering major civil engineering works is seeking a Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager to lead health and safety across a structures and earthworks delivery unit. This role requires strong technical oversight, leadership capability, and the ability to embed compliant, high-performing H&S systems across complex site operations.



About the Role



You will operate as a key interface between site teams, contract management, and senior leadership, ensuring the effective implementation of health and safety management systems aligned to statutory requirements and recognised standards.



Responsibilities



  • Leading implementation of H&S management systems in line with regulatory and organisational requirements
  • Managing H&S assurance across planning, coordination, and execution of works
  • Overseeing incident investigation processes including root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Monitoring, analysing, and reporting H&S performance data to identify trends and interventions
  • Providing technical H&S advice to operational teams and contract management
  • Supporting development of risk assessments and safe systems of work
  • Engaging with internal and external stakeholders including regulatory bodies where required
  • Driving continuous improvement and promoting best practice across the delivery unit


Qualifications



  • Extensive experience in civil engineering or infrastructure H&S management
  • Demonstrated leadership of H&S teams within live construction environments
  • NEBOSH qualification or equivalent professional certification
  • Strong knowledge of H&S legislation, compliance frameworks, and management systems
  • Experience in assurance, audit, and performance monitoring activities
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive behavioural change


Required Skills



  • Rail or Network Rail project experience
  • Experience working on large scale infrastructure programmes
  • Progression towards chartered IOSH membership


Working arrangement



  • West Ruislip, London
  • Hybrid working, 4 days on site and 1 day from home


Pay range and compensation package



This position offers a technically demanding environment where you will take ownership of health and safety performance and drive structured, measurable improvements across a complex civil engineering delivery function.
