Health and Safety Manager

New Yesterday

Futures recruitment are working for a well known manufacturing business in South Yorkshire. We are looking to appoint a Health and Safety Manager to work on a large single site. This is not a “steady-state” Health & Safety role — it's an opportunity for a proven professional to build, influence and embed a robust H&S framework from the ground up. There are challenges to address, legacy practices to improve and systems that need designing rather than inheriting. For the right person, this is a chance to leave a lasting mark, shape culture and be recognised as the architect of change.
The Role
As Health & Safety Manager, you will take full ownership of the H&S agenda across the manufacturing operation. You'll work closely with site leadership and operational teams to create structure, consistency and accountability, while maintaining a pragmatic, commercially aware approach.
Key responsibilities include:
Designing and implementing the full Health & Safety management system from scratch
Leading risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work across manufacturing operations
Ensuring compliance with UK H&S legislation and relevant industry standards
Embedding a proactive safety culture, influencing behaviours at all levels of the business
Acting as the subject-matter expert and trusted advisor to senior stakeholders
Investigating incidents, identifying root causes and driving sustainable corrective actions
Delivering training and coaching to upskill managers and frontline teams
Preparing the business for audits, inspections and continuous improvement initiatives
What We're Looking For
This is a hands-on, sleeves-rolled-up role. We're looking for someone who is comfortable working without a fully formed blueprint and confident making decisions.
You will likely have:
Proven experience in a Health & Safety leadership role within a manufacturing or industrial environment
A track record of building or significantly improving H&S frameworks and processes
Strong working knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation
NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) – essential
The confidence to challenge constructively and influence change
A pragmatic mindset — able to balance compliance with operational realities
Resilience, curiosity and the appetite to work through complexity
