A leading building consultancy firm is seeking a skilled and experienced Energy Modelling and Sustainability Consultant to join its London-based team.
This role sits within a recently established specialist service focused on supporting building consultancy and sustainability teams with advanced MEP input and technical design expertise.
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering building performance modelling across a commercial real estate portfolio, supporting net-zero carbon strategies and improving energy efficiency through advanced simulation and analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead energy modelling and building physics analysis to optimise building performance
- Develop and implement detailed building and HVAC system models
- Conduct thermal comfort, daylighting, natural ventilation, and overheating risk assessments
- Produce and lodge commercial EPCs
- Collaborate with design teams to integrate low-carbon and energy-efficient strategies into projects
- Identify and support decarbonisation opportunities across existing portfolios
- Work closely with surveyors, architects, engineers, and sustainability specialists
- Support certification processes including BREEAM, NABERS, LEED, WELL, and Net Zero Carbon
- Provide technical input into ESG reporting and compliance requirements
- Prepare and present technical reports to internal stakeholders and clients
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards, regulations, and internal procedures
Skills & Experience
Technical Skills:
- Strong experience in building energy modelling
- In-depth knowledge of building physics and simulation methodologies
- Proficiency in software such as IES VE, EnergyPlus, or DesignBuilder
- Experience with AutoCAD for 2D design work
- Working knowledge of Revit and Bluebeam
- Experience of SAP and SBEM methodologies
- Strong understanding of UK building regulations, CIBSE guidance, and ASHRAE standards
- Experience with parametric design tools (e.g. Grasshopper 3D) is advantageous
- Knowledge of data analysis tools such as Python or Excel VBA is beneficial
- Support BREEAM, NABERS,LEED, WELL, and Net Zero Carbon certification processes.
Qualifications & Certifications:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (ideally Master's level)
- Qualified Non-Domestic Energy Assessor
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. CIBSE, IMechE or equivalent) is desirable
- Professional certifications such as CIBSE Low Carbon Consultant, BEMP, or CEM are desirable
