Commercial Broking Office Manager / Technical Referral Lead\n\nSalary: Up to £60,000\nLocation: Croydon – Hybrid (3 days office-based)\n\nWe are recruiting an experienced Commercial Broking Office Manager to join a fast-growing, award-winning insurance brokerage specialising in SME clients across the UK. This is a senior, hands-on role combining technical referral authority, people leadership, and operational oversight.\n\nThe Role\n\n * \n\n Act as second-in-command to the Managing Director, supporting strategic planning and day-to-day operational management\n\n * \n\n Serve as the primary technical referral point for the broking teams, providing expert guidance on commercial package policies, complex renewals, and new business placements\n\n * \n\n Oversee and support Team Leaders, ensuring technical standards, compliance, and consistent quality of advice across sales and renewals\n\n * \n\n Maintain ownership of technical governance, including insurer trading queries, referral outcomes, and adherence to underwriting authority\n\n * \n\n Manage key operational functions such as daily performance reporting, lead allocation, file audits, complaints handling, and participation in senior management meetings\n\n * \n\n Step in to handle and complete complex quotes and referrals where required, leading by example\n\n * \n\n Represent the business at industry events, insurer meetings, and networking opportunities\n\nRequirements\n\n * \n\n Minimum 5 years’ experience in a leadership role within commercial insurance broking (Team Leader, Office Manager, or similar)\n\n * \n\n Strong technical knowledge of SME commercial insurance, including new business, renewals, and mid-term adjustments\n\n * \n\n Proven ability to act as a trusted technical referral resource for broking teams\n\n * \n\n Experience managing workloads, handling insurer relationships, and resolving trading or placement issues\n\n * \n\n Confident overseeing day-to-day operations and teams in the MD’s absence\n\n * \n\n Highly organised, adaptable, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, growth-focused environment\n\nWhat’s on Offer\n\n * \n\n Salary up to £60,000, depending on experience\n\n * \n\n Hybrid working – 3 days per week in the Croydon office\n\n * \n\n Opportunity to join an award-winning brokerage with strong growth plans and a diverse SME client portfolio\n\n * \n\n A senior role with genuine influence over technical standards, people development, and business performance
