About Fairfield Vision

Fairfield Vision is a pioneering agri-tech startup using AI and advanced computer vision to tackle crop disease, improve yields, and support climate-resilient, transparent supply chains.

Our flagship platform, HiveSight, combines field-deployed multispectral and polarised imaging devices with causal AI and Earth Observation data to provide real-time intelligence to cocoa growers and buyers across the globe. We're already working with blue-chip customers and preparing to scale rapidly. This is serious work, aimed at supporting farmers, protecting ecosystems, and improving food security, not just another glorified software engineering gig.

The Role

We’re seeking a Chief Technology Officer to lead the technical direction of Fairfield Vision as we scale from MVP to global deployment. And we are happy to fit the role to the right candidate.

You’ll take over the roadmap from the founder and CEO, drive the engineering team, and be responsible for the reliability and performance of our systems, from embedded Jetson devices in tropical farms to AI inference pipelines and cloud-based geospatial analytics.

This is a strategic role, but it’s not abstract. You’ll be deeply involved in the day-to-day:

Debugging ONNX model inference on embedded hardware

Coordinating with Earth Observation partners at ESA

Writing grant applications

Ensuring the system stands up in the field, not just in the lab

Our platform, HiveSight, has already been field-tested in cocoa plantations across Ecuador. It integrates edge AI, geospatial modelling, and causal inference to deliver actionable insights for farmers and supply chains.

Now we need to scale it, harden it, and expand it. If that challenge excites you, we’d love to talk.

Responsibilities

• Own and execute the technical strategy for HiveSight’s software and hardware stack
• Lead and grow the engineering team (currently 1 FT staff)
• Ensure rigorous testing, reliability, and performance across Jetson-based embedded systems
• Oversee deployment of ML models (object detection, classification, causal inference, time series forecasting)
• Collaborate closely with the CEO on product direction, customer feedback, and delivery
• Coordinate with ESA, EO data providers, hardware manufacturers, and major client field teams
• Set best practices for version control, CI/CD, testing, and security
• Contribute to grant writing and reporting (e.g. ESA, Innovate UK)
• Strong Python skills (especially PyTorch, OpenCV, TorchScript/TensorRT, ONNX), Linux, and Jetson/edge devices
• Experience in large project management
• Detail oriented
• Experience shipping production-grade ML systems
• Hands-on, proactive, and practical in a fast-moving environment
• Excellent communicator, clear thinker and clear builder
• Mission-aligned: You believe in tech that improves lives and ecosystems

Bonus Points

• 2+ years leading engineering teams (esp. in AI, embedded systems, or remote sensing)
• Experience deploying AI in constrained environments (low-power, low-connectivity)
• Familiarity with satellite data (Sentinel, SAR, EO data fusion)
• Background in agronomy, ecology, or spatial analytics
• Startup/founding team experience
• Experience with field deployments in LMICs
• Spanish or Portuguese fluency
