Business Development Specialist– Industrial Enzymes


Location: London/Hybrid (Flexible)

Contract: Part-time preferred (full-time considered)


Our client is a next-generation enzyme engineering company using proprietary Protein Language Models (PLMs) and Machine Learning–Directed Evolution (MLDE) to create and optimise industrial enzymes. They help customers move faster by giving them freedom to operate and superior enzyme performance without being constrained by existing IP landscapes.


Working across multiple industrial sectors including diagnostics, agriculture, sustainability, energy, chemicals, cleaning, leather, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals (small molecules).


The Role:


We are seeking a Business Development Specialist, with experience in the microbial/prokaryotic protein space to help grow commercial partnerships.


This role is ideal for someone who understands how enzymes are used in real-world industrial workflows and can translate technical pain points into commercial opportunities. You will be responsible for identifying, engaging, and building relationships with companies that rely on enzymes and matching their needs to the relevant services and solutions.


What you'll do:


  • Identify and engage potential customers across industrial enzyme markets (biotech, diagnostics, agriculture, sustainability, chemicals, pharma, etc.)
  • Build and manage commercial relationships with R&D, innovation, and technical leadership teams
  • Translate customer pain points into well-defined projects for protein engineering and ML teams
  • Help shape the commercial strategy by feeding real-world market insights back into the product roadmap
  • Support deal structuring, proposals, and partnership discussions
  • Represent the company in industry meetings, conferences, and customer calls
  • Perform competitor analysis


You will have:


  • Experience working with enzymes, industrial biotechnology, or microbial/prokaryotic protein systems
  • A strong understanding of how enzymes are developed, optimised, and commercialised
  • A background in business development, licensing, partnerships, or technical sales within biotech, bioengineering, or life sciences
  • A degree in biochemistry or other related life science subject
  • The ability to speak credibly with scientists, engineers, and commercial stakeholders
  • A network or track record within enzyme-using industries (diagnostics, agriculture, sustainability, chemicals, pharma, etc.)


The preference is for someone to work part time (2 or 3 days a week) but we are open to consider individuals who also want a full time role.
