Job Title\n\nBookkeeper – Construction Subcontractor & Zoho Expert\n\nLocation\n\nOffice-based (Liverpool or other office location)\n\nEmployment Type\n\nFull-Time\n\nSalary\n\nCompetitive, based on experience\n\nRole Overview\n\nWe are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Bookkeeper with strong expertise in Zoho Books to support the financial operations of a UK construction subcontractor. This is a hands-on role suited to a finance professional who is both a bookkeeping all-rounder and technically confident with the Zoho ecosystem.\n\nYou will manage day-to-day financial operations, ensure accurate and compliant records, and play a lead role in optimising financial systems and reporting. The role includes responsibility for VAT, CIS, project cost tracking, subcontractor payments, and the development of workflows, dashboards, and reporting tools within Zoho.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nBookkeeping & Financial Management\n\nMaintain accurate books across all ledgers (sales, purchases, bank, journals) in Zoho Books\n\nUse Zoho Creator to calculate Works Done (fed from CRM project stages)\n\nPerform regular bank reconciliations and manage month-end close\n\nProcess supplier invoices, match to POs and delivery notes, and run payment batches\n\nManage accounts receivable, credit control, and overdue payments\n\nPrepare and submit VAT and CIS returns in line with Making Tax Digital\n\nSupport payroll input and reconciliation\n\nAssist with year-end preparation and liaise with external accountants\n\nConstruction-Specific Financial Tasks\n\nManage CIS deductions and submissions\n\nTrack job and project-level costs for margin analysis\n\nRecord retentions and variations accurately\n\nWork with project teams to capture site costs and purchase orders in real time\n\nZoho Platform Administration & Customisation\n\nOptimise Zoho Books through workflow automation, templates, and integrations\n\nCustomise Zoho Creator apps and forms (e.g.

timesheets, purchase requests, job tracking)\n\nBuild and maintain dashboards and reports in Zoho Analytics (cash flow, aged debtors, WIP, project profitability)\n\nTrain staff and maintain system documentation\n\nAdditional Responsibilities\n\nManage accounts payable and receivable, including invoicing and payment tracking\n\nProcess expenses and reconcile bank accounts\n\nMaintain data accuracy and financial integrity\n\nSupport month-end and year-end close processes\n\nPrepare financial reports and summaries as required\n\nAssist with budget tracking and financial forecasting\n\nRespond to financial queries and support audits\n\nMaintain compliance with accounting regulations and internal policies\n\nCreate and issue quotes and estimates to support sales activity\n\nSupport maintenance of required ISO certifications\n\nEnsure CRM data hygiene, including contact and opportunity records\n\nRequirements\n\nEssential Skills & Experience\n\nProven bookkeeping experience within a construction or subcontractor environment\n\nExpert-level proficiency in Zoho Books\n\nStrong experience with Zoho Creator (custom apps, workflows, scripting)\n\nAdvanced use of Zoho Analytics (dashboards, reports, data sources)\n\nIn-depth knowledge of CIS, VAT, and construction financial processes\n\nStrong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and financial compliance\n\nProficient in Excel or Google Sheets\n\nHighly organised, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven\n\nAbility to work independently with minimal supervision\n\nStrong written and verbal communication skills\n\nComfortable using remote collaboration tools\n\nDesirable\n\nExperience with job costing, WIP reporting, and project-based accounting\n\nFamiliarity with other Zoho applications (e.g. Zoho CRM, Zoho Projects)\n\nAAT qualification or equivalent\n\nExperience supporting senior management with financial insight and analysis\n\nWhat You’ll Get\n\nAttractive salary package\n\nOpportunity to shape and improve financial systems\n\nSupportive, high-standards working environment\n\nPotential progression into a Finance Manager role
