Workplace Design Standards Manager

OVERVIEW
This is a strategic, stakeholder-facing architectural role focused on design assurance rather than hands-on design. The successful candidate will support a large portfolio of workplace and job centre projects, ensuring alignment with internal standards and best practices.
The role will be Hybrid and based out of one of the following client hubs - Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield, Cardiff, Glasgow or Newcastle.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide design assurance across up to 300 concurrent projects
- Ensure compliance with internal standards (e.g., BS8300)
- Contribute to and evolve design standards and guidance
- Conduct post-occupancy evaluations
- Support programme lifecycle activities and governance
- Evaluate costs, logistics, and practicalities of office design
- Lead or support process reviews and continuous improvement
- Core Day-to-Day Duties
- Develop and implement workplace design and technical property standards
- Promote sustainable, inclusive, and efficient workspaces
- Provide strategic advice across all RIBA stages
- Collaborate with stakeholders and guide external contractors.
SKILLS & QUAIFICATIONS
Essential Experience
- Background in architecture or interior design (commercial/retail preferred)
- Experience with large-scale workplace or job centre projects
- Strong understanding of inclusive design and accessibility
- Skilled in stakeholder management and presenting to large groups
- Experience in writing and evolving design standards
- Knowledge of UK Building Regulations and RIBA processes.
Desirable Experience
- Degree or Master’s in Architecture
- RIBA membership (or working towards)
- Project management qualifications (e.g., PRINCE2, APM)
- Experience in complex estates (e.g., healthcare, education)
- Familiarity with UK regulations and standards
