Job Description

Veterinary Surgeon – Independent Hospital, Specialist Support – Cheshire – £38,000–£70,000 DOE

A brilliant opportunity to join a well-established, independently owned small animal hospital in Cheshire — with outstanding facilities, a genuinely supportive team, and a strong commitment to work-life balance.

About the Practice

This independent small animal practice operates across two sites in Cheshire. The flagship site is an RCVS-accredited small animal hospital and nurse training practice, holding Gold Cat Friendly Clinic status — a real mark of the care and thought that goes into everything they do.

The hospital is exceptionally well equipped, with:

  • Two theatres and a dedicated dental suite with dental radiography
  • In-house IDEXX laboratory including blood, urinalysis and SediVue machines, plus an EPOC machine
  • DR X-ray, high quality ultrasound, video endoscope and laparoscope

The second purpose-built site opened four years ago and delivers the same high standard of first-opinion care, with overnight inpatients transferred to the hospital as needed. The hospital is staffed 24/7 by the nursing team.

About the Team

This is where the practice really stands out. The clinical team includes eight vets with certificate holders in Anaesthesia, ECC and Medicine, alongside a diplomate orthopaedic surgeon. Visiting specialists in Soft Tissue Surgery, Cardiology and Diagnostic Imaging further enhance the level of care available — and provide the wider team with fantastic exposure to complex and interesting cases.

The nursing team is equally impressive — eight RVNs and two SVNs led by a DipAVN, with ECC certificate holders among their number. Reception and front of house are experienced and dedicated throughout.

Mental health is taken seriously here too, with trained Mental Health First Aiders within the team.

About the Role

This is a four-day week role, with two days off in lieu for weekend working. The weekend rota is currently 1 in 8 (Saturday and Sunday, 8am–5pm). Out-of-hours is covered by a dedicated provider, with vets sharing inpatient responsibility on a 1 in 8 nights rota.

Scheduled admin time is built into the working week, and post-graduate qualifications are actively encouraged and supported.

What They're Looking For

They are looking for a Veterinary Surgeon who genuinely cares about their patients, thrives in a team environment, and is enthusiastic and motivated to deliver high-quality first-opinion care. Whether you're earlier in your career or a more experienced vet looking for a practice that truly values its people — this is a practice worth talking to.
