The Role
The Head of Learning & Development (L&D) will lead and deliver the One UK L&D strategy aligned with business goals, with a focus on building capability across all four UK sites. This includes ownership of soft skills, management and leadership development, and strategic oversight of technical training.
What You’ll Do
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute a forward-thinking, One UK L&D strategy that aligns with the business vision and supports long-term employee capability.
- Lead the transformation of learning culture with a strong focus on leadership, management, behavioural development, and employee engagement.
Learning Delivery & Design
- Lead the design and delivery of soft skills and leadership programmes for colleagues.
- Ensure high-quality learning solutions are available across formats (in-person, virtual, e-learning) to meet diverse needs.
- Identify and implement AI-driven solutions to support the L&D team (e.g. adaptive learning platforms, AI content generation, learning analytics)
Technical Training Oversight
- Provide strategic leadership to the technical training team, ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.g., Food Safety, H&S, SOPs).
Governance & Measurement
- Govern and maintain training records and systems (e.g., Papaya TMS), ensuring data is accurate, audit-ready, and insights-driven.
- Define and track KPIs for L&D effectiveness, including impact on performance, compliance, and employee development.
- Ensure effective evaluation of L&D initiatives using feedback, ROI, and metrics.
- Manage the L&D budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness and demonstrable value.
- Lead early-career development programmes including apprenticeships and graduate schemes.
About You
You’re a passionate L&D senior professional with the ability to inspire, influence, and drive positive change. You’ll have:
- Experience & Skills: Proven experience in designing and delivering L&D strategies at a senior level, ideally across multi-site operations. Demonstrable success in leadership and behavioural development programmes. In-depth understanding of technical training frameworks in a regulated or manufacturing environment. Strong command of digital learning systems, learning analytics, and modern L&D technologies including AI.
- Qualifications:
- Essential:CIPD Level 7 (or equivalent postgraduate qualification) in Learning & Development, HR, or Organisational Development.
- Desirable:Master’s degree in HRM, Learning & Development, Organisational Psychology, or related discipline. Qualified coach or facilitator (e.g., ILM Level 5/7 in Coaching & Mentoring, or equivalent).
- Qualities: Resilience, pace, adaptability, and the confidence to challenge the status quo while fostering collaboration.
