Transport Planner – General Haulage\n Portsmouth | Full-Time | £27,500 – £34,000 (depending on hours)\n\nWe are currently recruiting for an experienced Transport Planner to join a busy and fast-paced general haulage operation based in Portsmouth. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their career within a dynamic transport environment where no two days are the same.\n\nThe Role\n\nYou will play a key role in planning and coordinating daily transport operations, ensuring collections and deliveries are completed efficiently, cost-effectively, and in line with customer expectations.\n\nThis is a hands-on, fast-paced position where you’ll be working closely with drivers, subcontractors, and customers to keep operations running smoothly.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\n * Planning daily collections and deliveries for a general haulage fleet\n\n * Optimising routes to maximise efficiency and vehicle utilisation\n\n * Managing subcontractors and utilising haulage exchange platforms\n\n * Allocating jobs and issuing clear instructions to drivers\n\n * Monitoring live operations and adapting plans where required\n\n * Liaising with drivers, customers, and internal teams to ensure service levels are met\n\n * Handling inbound calls and resolving transport-related queries\n\n * Briefing and debriefing drivers throughout the day\n\n * Managing and resolving real-time operational issues\n\n * Identifying opportunities for cost control and operational improvement\n\nWhat We’re Looking For\n\n * Previous experience in a transport planning role, ideally within general haulage\n\n * Good understanding of UK transport legislation (driver hours, tachographs, vehicle compliance)\n\n * Experience planning routes for a busy, multi-drop operation\n\n * Confident communicator with the ability to liaise at all levels\n\n * Highly organised with strong attention to detail\n\n * Experience using Transport Management Systems (TMS)\n\n * Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office\n\n * Ability to work calmly under pressure in a time-critical environment\n\n * Proactive mindset with a “can-do” attitude and strong sense of ownership\n\nWorking Hours & Salary\n\n * Monday to Friday\n\n * Option 1: 9:00am – 5:30pm (8.5 hours incl. lunch) – £27,500 to £30,000\n\n * Option 2: 8:00am – 6:00pm (10 hours incl.
