Trainee Material Controller

About the Role As a Trainee Material Controller, you will play a key role in ensuring the efficient, timely, and accurate flow of raw materials - specifically steel and aluminium. into the manufacturing process. You will support continuous production by managing inventory levels, liaising with suppliers, monitoring material usage, and ensuring materials are available in line with production schedules and quality requirements. Full training will be provided for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities Material Planning & Control Set key planning parameters to ensure timely delivery of raw materials. Monitor and manage raw material inventory levels in line with production demands. Maintain accurate stock records through regular PI (Perpetual Inventory) activity. Monitor material usage rates and adjust planning accordingly. Support ongoing supply into the plants on an OTIF (On Time In Full) basis. Forecasting & Project Support Generate material forecasts aligned to key project milestones. Produce long-term material consumption forecasts. Support NPI (New Product Introduction) activity and adoption into mass production. Manage customer-specific material processes (CPS). Supplier & Quality Management Manage supplier concerns through root cause analysis and corrective actions. Work with Quality and Engineering teams to resolve material non-conformities. Produce and monitor vendor ratings for key material suppliers. Conduct robust RFQ processes for low-volume material sourcing. Operational Excellence Problem-solve supply constraints to minimise production downtime. Control off-site customer-owned material. Manage model runout programmes with minimal obsolescence. Ensure supplier ASN compliance and resolve invoice queries. Report on departmental KPIs including inventory turnover, shortages, stock holding, valuation, accuracy, and supplier performance.
We are looking for someone who is: Enthusiastic, proactive, and highly self-motivated. Able to remain calm, clear-thinking, and decisive under pressure. A strong team player with excellent organisational skills. Detail-focused with a commitment to accuracy and meeting deadlines. An effective communicator, both written and verbal. IT literate, with confidence using Microsoft Office and ERP systems (QAD experience beneficial).
