About the Role

The Traffic Regulation Orders Team provides a legal service within the Highways, Transport & Network Management service area by promoting and producing temporary and permanent Traffic Regulation Orders and Notices for works on the Surrey Road Network. The team supports Surrey County Council works, Statutory Undertakers, and other Agencies. Our aim is to deliver a professional, efficient, and cost-effective service, ensuring the Council's legal duties are met and all Traffic Regulation Orders and Notices are in place before any highway works.

As a Traffic Regulation Orders Officer, you will be responsible for drafting Temporary Traffic Orders/Notices and Permanent Traffic Orders under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. You will develop accurate drafting skills for statutory notices and orders, which are time-sensitive. Building relationships within the team and with stakeholders requesting Traffic Orders, you will provide advice on processes and legislation.

Future of the Role

Due to Local Government Reorganisation, this role will transfer to one of the new unitary councils in April 2027, with all existing terms and conditions maintained.

Position Details

This full-time, permanent role is based at The Merrow Complex, Guildford, with hybrid working arrangements. The starting salary is £30,647 per annum, based on a 36-hour week. The role is open only to current Surrey County Council employees.
