Role Overview
The Senior Technical Business Analyst will support the delivery of a new trade surveillance capability within the Markets Risk Technology function of a major UK bank. The role ensures that surveillance controls, supervisory workflows and associated data flows are designed and documented with a high level of technical precision. The position also contributes to the review and automation of existing manual supervisory controls as new platform capabilities are introduced. This is a technically focused business analysis role. The primary output is accurate, engineer‑ready documentation. While business engagement is important, technical rigour is the core requirement.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce detailed functional and technical specifications for surveillance platform components,
- including alert routing logic, supervisory interfaces, attestation workflows and MI reporting
- Manage review and approval cycles, maintaining full version control and audit‑ready documentation
- Document current manual supervisory processes operated across front‑office and operations
- Identify automation opportunities and support transition planning as new platform features are introduced
- Deployed Data Flow and Requirements Documentation
- Map end‑to‑end data flows from trading systems to surveillance platforms
- Identify gaps, ambiguities or incomplete requirements and address these ahead of engineering build phases
- Prepare documentation for governance forums, including data requirements, scope boundaries, decision records and evidence for audit and assurance
- Ensure risks, dependencies and design rationale are clearly documented
Skills and Experience Required
- Minimum 10 years' business analysis experience within financial services technology
- Proven ability to produce functional and technical specifications used directly by engineering teams
- Experience working within environments subject to formal governance, internal oversight or external review
- Strong ability to interpret data flows, identify ambiguity and document requirements clearly to avoid rework
- Demonstrable stakeholder management capability, including driving review cycles and tracking decisions to closure
- Ability to map manual or supervisory processes end‑to‑end and produce clear process and dependency documentation
Desirable
- Experience in trade surveillance, market abuse monitoring or first‑line supervisory technology.
- Background in regulatory change or programmes involving external oversight
- Understanding of cloud‑based data pipelines and modern data architectures
- Ability to read SQL and interpret underlying data extraction
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments, including JIRA
