Job Description: Technical Underwriting Leader – Technology

Role Overview.

The Technical Underwriting Leader – Technology, is a senior specialist role responsible for driving underwriting excellence across Property & Casualty (P&C), Cyber, and Technology Professional Indemnity (Tech PI) lines. This highly technical, non-trading position focuses on risk analysis, portfolio management, and capability development within the underwriting team. The role combines technical expertise with leadership, coaching, and mentoring to ensure sustainable growth and profitability of the technology insurance portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical Underwriting

• Provide expert guidance on complex risks in P&C, Cyber, and Tech PI.

• Develop and maintain underwriting frameworks, policies, and risk appetite for technology-related lines.

• Ensure underwriting decisions align with corporate standards and regulatory requirements.

• Act as a subject matter expert for technology risks, supporting underwriters and business leaders.

• Leadership & Mentoring

• Coach, mentor, and develop junior and mid-level underwriters to build technical capability.

• Lead technical training sessions and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

• Foster a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.

• Portfolio & Book Management

• Oversee the performance of the technology insurance portfolio.

• Monitor profitability, loss ratios, and emerging risk trends.

• Recommend adjustments to underwriting strategy to maintain sustainable growth.

• Collaborate with actuarial and claims teams to refine pricing and risk assessment models.

• Stakeholder Engagement

• Partner with product development teams to shape new offerings in Cyber and Tech PI.

• Provide technical input to senior management on market trends and risk exposures.

• Support brokers and clients indirectly by ensuring underwriting standards are robust and consistent.

Qualifications & Experience

• Proven experience in underwriting across P&C, Cyber, and Technology PI.

• Strong technical background with ability to interpret complex risks.

• Demonstrated leadership experience in coaching and mentoring underwriters.

• Track record of managing and improving portfolio performance.

• Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and compliance in insurance markets.

• Professional qualifications (e.g., ACII or equivalent) preferred.
