Technical Proposals Manager – Standby Power North West England | Office-based with UK site visits
If you enjoy turning complex electrical requirements into well-designed, workable generator projects, this is a role worth exploring. This opportunity sits within a long-established UK critical power business delivering bespoke standby generator and switchgear projects for secure, mission-critical environments.
The focus is on front-end technical ownership: shaping the electrical solution, defining scope, and setting projects up properly before they move into delivery.
This is a technically credible, office-based role for someone colleagues go to when they need confirmation that a solution is technically sound.
Typical work includes:
*
Standby generator and switchgear installations
*
LV and MV electrical integration
*
Complex access, lifting, and site constraints
*
Secure and critical environments including defence, healthcare, and protected estates
*
Design-and-build style projects where the solution is defined in-house rather than handed over fully specified
Project values range from smaller repeat works through to larger, more complex generator and switchgear installations, with several projects often live at any one time.
What you’ll be doing:
You’ll lead projects from initial enquiry through to mobilisation, then hand over to delivery teams. That includes:
*
Interpreting incomplete or high-level scopes of work
*
Visiting sites to assess constraints and feasibility
*
Defining turnkey generator and switchgear solutions
*
Producing technically accurate tenders and scopes
*
Coordinating supplier input for generators, switchgear, and ancillaries. Identifying and resolving risk before delivery begins
You’ll Acting as the technical point of reference internally and externally on live enquiries from an established client base
Why this role appeals: This role suits engineers who care about getting the technical detail right at tender stage, prefer resolving risk before site teams are committed, and want their decisions to hold up through installation and commissioning.
*
Established UK business with a strong reputation and long-term client relationships in critical power
*
Technical decisions are respected, with projects designed for long-term maintenance, not short-term fixes
*
Office-based role with influence, visibility, and accountability at tender stage with a steady pipeline of technically engaging generator and switchgear projects
What you’ll need:
*
A strong electrical background
*
Proven experience with standby generator projects
*
Confidence integrating generators with LV and/or MV switchgear
*
Experience scoping and pricing projects from limited information
*
Understanding of G99 and grid-related considerations
*
Comfort acting as the technical authority at tender stage
Strong candidates for this role often have backgrounds in field service, commissioning, electrical engineering, or project delivery, and have moved into more front-end, technical ownership positions over time. What matters most is a solid understanding of how generator and switchgear projects are installed, commissioned, and maintained, so that decisions made at tender stage stand up throughout the project lifecycle. CAD capability is useful but not essential.
Package:
*
Salary guide: £60,000–£62,000 depending on experience
*
Car allowance: £7,500 per annum
*
Pension: Company pension scheme
*
Holiday: 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
*
Expenses: All business travel and overnight stays covered
*
Working pattern: Office-based role with site visits as required
Stability: Long-term position within a busy, well-established UK business Role security: Strong, ongoing project pipeline from an existing client base
The final package will reflect technical depth, project experience, and the ability to operate autonomously from day one.
Before you apply:
You will need the ability to obtain SC-level clearance for secure environments
This role will suit you if:
*
You enjoy resolving technical and scope questions early, before projects are priced, ordered, or committed on site
*
You’re comfortable taking ownership once a project moves out of sales, defining the technical solution, and handing over to delivery teams once the project is mobilisation-ready
*
You’re known as the person others go to when drawings, specifications, or assumptions need checking and you prefer being involved in technical decision-making rather than day-to-day site delivery
If this sounds broadly aligned but you’re not sure it’s quite right, you’re welcome to get in touch for an initial, no-commitment conversation. We’ll talk through the role, the type of projects involved, and whether it fits what you’re looking for
