A Technical Operator in food manufacturing ensures production lines run safely, efficiently, and consistently. The role blends machine operation, quality control, and problem-solving to keep food products flowing smoothly through the factory.
Key Responsibilities
Operate production machinery to meet daily output targets
Set up, adjust, and change over equipment for different products
Monitor line performance and respond quickly to faults or stoppages
Carry out basic mechanical troubleshooting to minimise downtime
Complete quality checks such as weight, temperature, and visual inspections
Record production data accurately for traceability and compliance
Follow food safety standards including HACCP, hygiene, and allergen controls
Work with engineers and supervisors to improve line efficiency
Support continuous improvement activities such as Lean or Kaizen
Maintain a clean and safe working environment at all times
Skills & Competencies
Mechanical aptitude and confidence working with machinery
Attention to detail for quality and safety checks
Problem-solving ability under time pressure
Basic IT/data entry skills for production systems
Understanding of food safety and hygiene requirements
Teamwork and communication across shifts and departments
Ability to follow SOPs and work in a regulated environment
Typical Requirements
Experience in manufacturing (food industry preferred but not always required)
Basic mechanical or technical background
Food safety or HACCP training
