Overview

You'll be joining a fast-growing EV charging network at a genuinely exciting moment. The operations team has done a brilliant job getting the business to where it is, but they need someone with serious technical depth to help take things to the next level. That's where you come in.

This role is for someone who loves being hands-on, diagnosing complex faults, getting out to sites, understanding how the network actually performs, but who can also bring structure and lead a team. You'll be building out a hybrid field service model from scratch, managing both in-house engineers and third-party contractors, and acting as the technical backbone of the ops function. If you've been waiting for a role where your experience genuinely shapes how a business operates, this is it.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the technical lead within operations, supporting the reliability and performance of the charging network
  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues across EV charging infrastructure
  • Oversee and optimise network performance and uptime
  • Work closely with network operations and technical teams
  • Lead the development of a hybrid field service model, including:
  • Building an internal field service capability
  • Managing and optimising third-party service providers
  • Drive improvements in:
  • Fault resolution times
  • Maintenance strategies
  • Operational efficiency
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to existing team members
  • Introduce and embed a more commercially-driven approach to operational decision making
  • Support the Operations Director in scaling and strengthening the function

Requirements

Technical Background

  • Strong background in EV charging infrastructure (preferred) or adjacent sectors such as utilities, electrical infrastructure, renewables, or telecoms
  • Working knowledge of EVSE standards and protocols including OCPP and ISO 15118
  • Understanding of AC/DC charging systems, power electronics, and grid interface requirements
  • Experience with IoT-based monitoring systems and remote diagnostics
  • Familiarity with electrical safety standards (IEC 61851 and local regulations)
  • Ability to interpret technical schematics, manuals, and site documentation

Operational Experience

  • Proven experience in technical or field operations
  • Experience managing service providers, SLA and PPM contracts, and field teams
  • Hands-on troubleshooting of complex infrastructure systems
  • Experience building or scaling field service or service delivery models
  • Familiarity with work order and maintenance management software

Key Traits

  • Hands-on and solutions-focused
  • Commercially aware and pragmatic
  • Strong leadership capability
  • Comfortable operating both strategically and in the field
