The role:
The technical manager will lead the day-to-day management of the Technical and Hygiene teams, setting high standards across the site. As technical manager you will have full ownership of HACCP, TACCP & VACCP systems, ensuring they are effectively maintained and regularly reviewed. The technical manager will be responsible for the maintenance and continuous improvement of the site’s Quality Management System (QMS), including all documentation and procedures. You will conduct and oversee internal QMS and GMP audits with departmental managers to ensure full compliance with BRC, customer codes of practice, and site accreditations. The technical manager will be in a leadership role and will be expected to deliver effective training for staff at all levels to embed food safety systems, hygiene procedures, and quality standards. The technical manager will oversee internal and external non-conformances, ensuring root cause investigations are completed and corrective/preventive actions implemented. You will be expected to support Production and NPD teams in the validation of new and existing processes, ensuring technical standards are upheld throughout development and launch. The technical manager will take full responsibility for pest control measures across the site, working with external providers as required. As Technical Manager you will prepare for, host, and follow up on customer and third-party audits and visits, ensuring all actions are tracked and completed within required timeframes. To review and update internal Work Instructions and site practices in line with customer expectations and BRC standards, ensuring effective training and implementation of changes. The Technical Manager will be responsible for overseeing customer portals and specification systems, ensuring all data is accurate, up to date, and compliant. You will also lead the supplier approval and monitoring process, maintain up-to-date records and managing supplier performance.
Ideal candidate:
Ideally you will be a technical manager within a food business or have experience working in the technical team within a food factory (ideally fruit or dairy but open to other food categories). You will have great interpersonal skills with an upbeat, get it done attitude. Knowledge of customer codes, practice and BRC requirements is ideal. Flexibility to adapt and solve a range of tasks to meet deadlines when necessary. Experience with Quality Management Systems is essential Experience leading a small team in a technical role is ideal
