Job Description
Job Title: Technical Manager\n\nLocation: Exeter, Devon, UK\n Reports to: Director\n Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent\n\nCompany Overview\n\nA dynamic property development and trading group specialising in acquiring and transforming complex brownfield and heritage sites across the South West of England. Delivering high-quality residential and commercial developments with strong emphasis on innovation, sustainability, and community impact .\n\nRole Summary\n\nThe Technical Manager leads and coordinates all technical aspects of property development projects from feasibility through delivery, ensuring excellence in quality, compliance, and efficiency. You will be the primary technical point of contact, working across project teams and external partners to mitigate risk, solve complex challenges, and ensure timely delivery to budget and regulatory standards.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nProject Technical Leadership\n\nLead all technical activities across multiple development projects — from feasibility, planning and design through construction and handover.\nProvide technical advice on project feasibility, design constraints, materials, buildability and risk mitigation.\nEnsure that technical deliveries align with development objectives, programme targets, and quality standards.\nCompliance, Standards & Governance\n\nEnsure full compliance with building regulations, planning conditions, CDM regulations, health & safety, and other statutory requirements.\nMaintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and industry standards; ensure project delivery reflects this.\nCollaboration & Stakeholder Management\n\nWork closely with internal teams — development, planning, commercial, and project delivery — to integrate technical requirements and resolve issues.\nCoordinate with external consultants, engineers, contractors, and local authorities to early identify and drive solutions to technical challenges.\nDocumentation & Reporting\n\nPrepare, review, and sign off on key technical documents including reports, design specifications, technical appraisals and risk assessments.\nReport on project technical progress, risks and forecasts to senior leadership.\nContinuous Improvement\n\nDrive innovation and best practice in technical delivery, sustainability standards, and construction methodologies.\nSupport post-project review and feedback cycles to foster ongoing process and performance improvements.\n\n Required Qualifications & Experience\n\nIdeally Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field (or equivalent experience) OR HNC/D\nProven experience (typically 5+ years) in technical leadership within property development or construction/project environment.\nSolid understanding of UK planning processes, construction standards, and building regulations.\nStrong project management skills, with ability to coordinate complex technical issues across teams.\nExcellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.\nExperience managing multidisciplinary design consultants and contractors.\n\n Desirable Skills (not essential)\n\nChartered or working toward professional membership (e.g., RICS, CIOB, ICE).\n\n What’s on Offer\n\nCompetitive salary DOE and benefits package.\nExposure across a diverse development pipeline including brownfield regeneration and heritage projects.\nCollaborative and growth-focused environment.\nProgression with an exciting and growing business
