About the Role

We are seeking a Teaching Assistant with SEND experience to work with those with additional needs which may include escalated behaviour and avoidant learning within an APR unit (Pod) within a medium sized Primary school in the Eastleigh area. This rewarding role involves supporting students with autism and additional needs both 1:1 and in small group settings, helping them to access learning and achieve their full potential. The Pod supports students to learn regulatory skills and access learning in a supportive environment in order to reintroduce them to the mainstream classrooms. This particular position is supporting 2 children with trauma backgrounds and SEMH barriers to learning. Establishing a trusting and respectful relationships will be the key to success.

About the School

The school is recognised as a “Good” school that was praised in it’s most recent Ofsted report for identifying needs early and establishing a personalised approach to ensure the success of each student.  The SENCO and other professionals work closely with children in the “Pod” to support their social, emotional and academic development.

Key Responsibilities

Provide support for 2 children with Social, emotional and Mental Health challenges as well as childhood trauma
Personalised small “bite sized” learning activities
Adapt learning materials and approaches to meet individual needs.
Support children to trust and thrive by building respectful relationships
Encourage independence, confidence, and positive social interactions.
Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff to implement personalised learning plans.
Monitor progress, observe and monitor behaviours
Raise any safe guarding concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Leads
Requirements

Previous experience supporting SEMH needs (school or care setting).
Patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting young people.
Excellent communication skills to work effectively with students, staff, and parents.
Knowledge of safeguarding and confidentiality practices.
Enhanced DBS check (support available if required).
