Teaching Assistant - 1:1 SEN Support

Primary School - Barking and Dagenham Salary: £1,800 - £2,200 per month Start Date: Immediate

A welcoming and well-regarded primary school in Barking and Dagenham, East London is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for pupils with Special Educational Needs. This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of a nurturing and inclusive school community. The position is expected to run until at least July, with the possibility of becoming a permanent role.

The school is a two-form entry setting with excellent facilities, catering to pupils from Reception through to Year 6, including a strong SEN provision. It is well connected by public transport and offers a friendly, team-oriented atmosphere. The school is committed to ensuring all children enjoy learning and reach their full potential.

You will be working alongside a supportive and collaborative staff team who are passionate about delivering the best outcomes for every pupil.

Key Responsibilities

Supporting Pupils

Provide tailored 1:1 support for students with SEN

Assist pupils in progressing academically under teacher guidance

Encourage independence, confidence, and positive behaviour

Deliver targeted interventions on a 1:1 and small group basis

Build strong, positive relationships and act as a role model

Support inclusion and active participation in lessons

Help implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Plans

Supporting Teachers

Assist the class teacher in maintaining a positive learning environment

Apply strategies to support lesson objectives

Track pupil progress and provide feedback to the teacher

Reinforce positive behaviour in line with school policies

Offer general classroom assistance where needed

Requirements

Essential

GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above), or equivalent

Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or supporting children with SEN

Desirable

Experience providing 1:1 support for SEN pupils (e.g. ASD, ADHD, SEMH)

A degree in Psychology, Education, or a related subject
