What skills and experience we're looking forOur PE Department are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated PE Teacher with a love for their subject to join our vibrant and supportive team. There are currently seven specialist teachers who enjoy a range of traditional and progressive teaching approaches, both contributing to the academic and pastoral life of the school.In addition to delivering high-quality Physical Education, the successful candidate will also be required to support with teaching Child Development and Health & Social Care, contributing to the wider academic curriculum of the school.Cove School has an ambitious and dynamic PE department where high-quality teaching and student engagement is embedded across the curriculum. The PE department benefits from an excellent range of dedicated indoor and outdoor facilities.The PE team offers a wide variety of sports, fitness and extra-curricular activities. The team leads the Duke of Edinburgh Award across the school, works closely with our primary feeder schools, and engages with a wide range of cross-curricular work within the school.The successful candidate will have a keen interest in driving PE forward, developing extra-curricular sports for all abilities to enthuse students to develop their abilities to progress and enjoy competitive and recreational sport, as well as supporting pupil's learning and progress in Child Development and Health & Social Care.We are looking to appoint a colleague who will:Engage, enthuse, motivate and challenge pupils in order for them to excel academicallyHave relentlessly high expectations of themselves and pupilsHave excellent subject knowledgeBe willing to teach across the full age range of pupils; year 7 to year 11Enhance the quality of teaching and learning in the Department and wider school through sharing resources and good practice, lesson observation, collaborative teaching, mentoring and active participation in continuing professional studies programmeTeach a standard timetable allocationMake a positive contribution to the efficient running of the Department, including setting and marking examinations, attending departmental meetings and undertaking administrative and other tasks as delegated by the Curriculum LeaderActively safeguard and promote the welfare of childrenSupport the schools’ aims and objectives for teaching and learningAdhere to and promote all school policies and proceduresPerson SpecificationGood degree in a directly related subject (desirable)Thorough knowledge of the (11-16) subject Curriculum up to GCSERecognised teaching qualification, such as a PGCE, or equivalent experienceAwareness of Safeguarding requirements and good practiceGood level of IT literacyBe capable of delivering inspirational and informative lessons to the full age and ability range of pupils at the schoolBe able to demonstrate a positive and authoritative rapport with pupilsExcellent and effective classroom management skillsHave excellent communication skills to enable effective dialogue with pupils, parents, staff and visitorsBe organised and self-motivated, with a proven record for meeting targets and deadlinesA good sense of humourWhat the school offers its staffAccess to an exceptional Professional Studies Programme from extensive in-house CPD, to a wide range of external coursesTo be part of a school which has a real ‘team approach’ where you will be valued and supportedA well-resourced curriculum area including your own laptopContribution to the Teacher’s Pension SchemeLifestyle discounts through our employee ‘Lifestyle Savings Platform’Access to free counselling service via our provider ‘Health Assured’Onsite parkingA dedicated Teaching and Learning training roomA staff room with complimentary refreshments and food provided on whole school events such as Parents’ EveningsCommitment to safeguardingCove School and Hampshire County Council are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
