Salary between £36,000 - £45,000 depending on experienceLocationWotton-under-Edge, GlosWe are looking for a motivated Supplier Development Engineer to support our Supply Chain Development function through Design for Manufacture (DFM) activity, new supplier onboarding, and project delivery across multiple product areas. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on technical problem-solving, supplier collaboration, and influencing product and process quality from the outset.Responsibilities Work across functions to capture and clarify purchased-item quality issues, defining robust problem statementsCollaborate with Design teams to understand critical features, performance requirements and DFM opportunitiesEngage with external suppliers to develop new components, processes and services, and to manage containment and corrective actions for quality concernsPartner with Purchasing to identify and develop new suppliers, follow commodity strategies and mitigate supply-chain risksSupport Goods-In Inspection to ensure effective incoming quality controlConduct supplier visits and assessments, producing clear records and follow-up actionsGenerate high-quality reports, inspection summaries and root-cause investigationsLead or support project-managed item development activitiesIdentify and communicate opportunities for improved process capability, control and DFM-driven cost reductionTake ownership of departmental metrics, targets and defined strategic projectsContinuously develop your technical skills, product knowledge and supplier-engagement capabilityShare learnings across functions to improve cross-team understanding of supplier and process constraintsKey requirements Qualifications or experience in an engineering or manufacturing discipline (role level and salary scaled accordingly)Knowledge of engineering drawings, inspection methods and GD&TAwareness of quality systems such as ISO9001Professionalism, tact and diplomacy when working with internal and external stakeholdersA driven, self-motivated mindset with the ability to learn quickly and work independentlyStrong problem-solving ability and a structured, logical approach to varied technical challengesOther requirementsWillingness to travel to suppliers in the UK and overseas as requiredAbility to represent the business professionally in supplier environmentsFlexibility to undertake initial functional training at multiple MSD sitesDevelopment and progressionDelivery-based performance assessments can support progression within the role structure, with potential pathways into senior technical or team-leading positions.BenefitsWhen you join Renishaw, we're committing to your future career.
