Trade the Youth Centre for the Classroom
Are you a Youth Worker in Preston looking for a more structured career path? Do you have a knack for connecting with "hard-to-reach" teenagers?
We are looking for dedicated individuals from a youth work, sports coaching, or community outreach background to join our Alternative Secondary School Pastoral Teams. You will use your unique ability to build trust and rapport to help students overcome barriers to learning and stay engaged in education.
Your Transferable Skills in Action
In this role, you aren't just "covering a class"-you are a relatable role model. Your experience translates directly to the school day:
Relationship Building: Use your "youth work heart" to connect with students who struggle with traditional authority.
De-escalation: Apply your training in managing challenging behaviours to keep the classroom calm and productive.
Mentoring: Deliver 1:1 or small group interventions for students facing social or emotional hurdles.
Advocacy: Act as the bridge between students, teachers, and parents to ensure every child is heard.
Role Requirements
Experience: At least 12 months working with young people (aged 11-16) in youth clubs, detached youth work, residential care, or sports leadership.
Communication: The ability to talk to a 15-year-old on their level while maintaining professional boundaries.
Resilience: A "thick skin" and a calm temperament in high-pressure situations.
Vetting: Must hold or be willing to apply for an Enhanced DBS (Child Workforce) on the Update Service.
Why Make the Move?
Better Work-Life Balance: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am - 3:30 pm. No more late-night outreach or weekend shifts.
School Holidays: Enjoy 13 weeks of holiday per year (Term-Time only).
Career Growth: This is a proven stepping stone into Teaching, Social Work, or Educational Psychology.
Community Impact: Help the young people of Preston thrive within the local education system.
