Job Description
Project Engineer\n\nLocation: Manchester - 2 Home / 3 days in the office\nSalary: £40,000 - £60,000\n\nRole Overview\n\nThe Project Engineer will be responsible for managing the engineering delivery of multiple structural steelwork projects, ensuring all designs, drawings, calculations, and technical information are delivered safely, on programme, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.\n\nThe role acts as the primary technical interface between Hare, clients, consultants, and internal teams, coordinating engineering activities across design, detailing, procurement, fabrication, and site through the full project lifecycle.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nProject & Engineering Management\n\nManage engineering programmes across multiple structural steel contracts.\n\nCoordinate engineering resources, drawing schedules, and deliverables in line with project programmes.\n\nMaintain cost awareness and support commercial control through efficient engineering delivery.\n\nEnsure all engineering outputs meet quality, programme, and contractual requirements.\n\nClient & Stakeholder Liaison\n\nAct as the main technical point of contact for clients, consulting engineers, and design teams.\n\nCoordinate closely with internal departments including project management, fabrication, procurement, and site teams.\n\nAttend design meetings, coordination meetings, and site meetings as required.\n\nEngineering Deliverables & Information Control\n\nManage the production, checking, issue, and approval of:\n\nStructural calculations\n\nGA and fabrication drawings\n\nTechnical submissions and reports\n\nPrepare Drawing Registers (e.g. Drawing 001), preliminary material take-offs, and bought-out item schedules.\n\nEnsure effective document control and accurate flow of technical information across all teams.\n\nTechnical Queries, Variations & Reporting\n\nManage Technical Queries (TQs), RFIs, and ITQs, reviewing prior to submission.\n\nCoordinate responses with internal teams and external consultants.\n\nSupport the identification and management of variations.\n\nProvide regular engineering progress updates and programme reports.\n\nFabrication, Site & Compliance\n\nEnsure engineering outputs are fully aligned with fabrication and site requirements.\n\nAttend site visits, inspections, and coordination meetings as required.\n\nEnsure compliance with:\n\nCompany quality systems and procedures\n\nNSSS and relevant British / European Standards\n\nProject-specific specifications and client requirements\n\nPerformance Focus\n\nDeliver engineering packages within agreed cost and programme targets.\n\nAchieve zero non-conformances through robust checking and quality control.\n\nMaintain accurate engineering registers, trackers, and project records.\n\nQualifications & Experience\n\nHNC minimum in Civil or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).\n\nDegree in Civil / Structural Engineering .\n\nAssociate or Chartered membership of IStructE (or working towards) .\n\nTypically 4-10 years' experience in structural steelwork or related construction engineering roles.\n\nThis role offers the opportunity to work on complex, high-profile structural engineering projects within a business known for technical excellence, collaboration, and long-term career development.
