Street Cleansing Operative

Location: EX2
Pay Rate: £13.05 per hour

We are currently recruiting Street Cleansing Operatives to support essential cleansing services and help keep the city clean, safe, and presentable for residents and visitors.

The Role

You will be responsible for delivering high-quality cleansing services within an allocated area, working either independently or as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities

Removing litter and emptying litter bins as required
Carrying out basic graffiti removal, fly-posting removal, weed trimming, and general street cleaning
Cleaning public toilets, car parks, and public spaces when required
Undertaking basic inspections of facilities and reporting any maintenance issues
Identifying and reporting issues such as fly-tipping, damaged street furniture, abandoned vehicles, stray dogs, or illegal use of council land
Highlighting additional work required for specialist teams (e.g. grounds maintenance, mechanical sweeping, deep cleaning)
Completing basic records including timesheets and daily checks
Following all health & safety procedures and council policies at all times

Shifts & Hours

Shift start times between 05:00 - 07:00
Finish times between 13:00 - 18:00
Working 3-5 days out of 7, depending on the role
Must be flexible to work at least one weekend day
Roles include 7.5-hour shifts (30-minute unpaid break) or 10.5-hour shifts (1.5-hour tea/lunch breaks)

Training

Full training will be provided across all areas, including:

City centre solo sweeping
Van routes
Car park and toilet cleaning
Deep cleaning dutiesDue to training and operational needs, shift start times may vary.

Requirements

Full, clean, manual UK driving licence (essential)
Flexible and reliable with a strong work ethic
Able to work safely and follow procedures
