Key Accountabilities
Lead strategic projects from problem definition to value realisation, structuring and executing complex initiatives. Own end‑to‑end M&A, joint venture and partnership lifecycles, including origination, thesis generation, rigorous valuation and definitive agreement negotiation, acting as the primary interface with external advisors. Act as a trusted adviser to the Group CEO and CFO, translating complex financial data into board‑ready strategic recommendations under tight timelines. Ensure flawless, compelling strategic output, owning the quality of all papers, board decks and external investor materials. Develop detailed financial models and business cases, rigorously testing assumptions for both organic and inorganic corporate activity and understanding Starling’s key business drivers. Assist the Group’s capital allocation approach, monitoring fintech and banking landscapes for valuation benchmarks and emerging competitor threats to inform strategy. Mentor Associates and Analysts, champion first‑principles thinking and high‑velocity execution, building strong relationships across the Group.
Requirements
Extensive experience in strategy consulting (lead complex projects), investment banking (associate to VP, FIG/Fintech/TMT) or private equity (mid‑to‑large cap mid‑term). Demonstrable transaction track record is essential. Strong problem‑solving skills, hypothesis‑driven methodology and the ability to disaggregate complex, undefined problems. Highly competent financial modelling, with clear expertise on cost of capital, terminal value assumptions and synergy phasing. Deep understanding of high‑level legal and structural components of deals and the ability to create compelling, data‑backed presentations for board and external investors. Execution focus, stakeholder management, first‑principles thinking, commercial instinct and resilience – a bias for action and the ability to manage multiple live work streams autonomously. Ambiguity tolerance and the confidence to work in a fast‑paced, fluid environment where priorities shift rapidly.
