Are you passionate about supporting students with mental health conditions and neurodivergence to reach their full potential in higher education? Are you confident in designing and delivering workshops and speaking at open day and transition events? If so, this could be the perfect role for you.
We are seeking a highly self-motivated Specialist Mentor to join our team at the University of Manchester. As part of the Specialist Mentoring Service, you will play a vital role in enhancing the student experience by providing well-being and study-related support to disabled students, particularly those with mental health difficulties and / or neurodivergence.
Working Pattern: On-campus 2 days per week, with a half-day of remote working.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one mentoring support, supporting students develop to independent learning and self-management strategies.
- Deliver engaging and informative workshops to groups of students.
- Confidently speak at open days and transition events to students, parents, and support workers about the support available.
- Coordinate the delivery of specialist mentoring services, including social groups.
- Offer advice and guidance on student wellbeing.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the University to enhance service provision.
- Assist with the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure data quality for all student interactions.
- Educated to degree level or equivalent with relevant professional body membership (please see professional body membership document)
- Strong understanding of mental health conditions, neurodivergence, and their impact on academic study.
- Experience in supporting higher education students with study strategies.
- Confident public speaker with excellent presentation and written skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
- Strong digital literacy skills and familiarity with assistive software.
- Commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and student wellbeing.
- The successful candidate must be available to work on campus 2 days per week, with a half-day of remote working.
- This role may require occasional evening/weekend work.
- Successful candidates must obtain membership with the University Mental Health Advisers Network (UMHAN) and work towards full accreditation, as this is a mandatory requirement. The University will facilitate and cover the cost of membership.
Please note that the University is unable to fund continuing professional registration costs beyond UMHAN membership.
