Job Description

We are recruiting on behalf of a Michelin-recognised pub with rooms located in Harpenden, Hertfordshire. Our client is seeking an experienced and driven Sous Chef to support the Head Chef in leading a high-quality, fresh food kitchen across both restaurant service and guest dining.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Head Chef in the day-to-day running of the kitchen
  • Lead service across restaurant and rooms dining periods
  • Ensure consistent preparation and presentation of high-quality dishes
  • Oversee kitchen operations in the Head Chefs absence
  • Maintain excellent food hygiene, safety, and cleanliness standards
  • Assist with menu development, specials, and seasonal changes
  • Manage stock control, ordering, and waste reduction
  • Train, support, and develop junior kitchen team members

About You

  • Previous experience as a Sous Chef or strong Junior Sous Chef ready to step up
  • Background in fresh food, gastropub, or quality restaurant kitchens
  • Michelin or Bib Gourmand experience desirable but not essential
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to run a smooth service
  • Calm, organised, and confident under pressure
  • Passionate about seasonal produce and high-quality execution
  • Strong team player with a proactive, hands-on approach
