Overview We are supporting a leading aerospace engineering organisation in Tewkesbury in the recruitment of an experienced Sliding Head Lathe Machinist.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established, high-performing manufacturing team producing precision components to tight aerospace tolerances, with strong long-term career prospects.
Key Responsibilities

• Set and operate Star Sliding Head Lathes
• Machine components to tight tolerances and high-quality standards
• Carry out inspection and self-certification using manual and automated metrology equipment
• Work from engineering drawings, inspection plans, and technical documentation
• Support problem solving and continuous improvement activities
• Apply lean manufacturing principles (5S, etc.)
• Perform basic preventative maintenance

Requirements

• Proven experience setting sliding head lathes (Star preferred)
• Completed engineering apprenticeship or equivalent
• Experience working to tight tolerances in a precision environment
• Competent using inspection and measurement equipment
• Ability to read engineering drawings (metric & imperial)
• Understanding of GD&T
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to use initiative
• Able to work both independently and within a team
