Role Overview Astute's Power Team are recruiting for a Site Manager (Solar) to join the Principal Contract on the delivery of a new build 20MW Solar farm based in Caerphilly, Wales. Day rate: £500.00 to £550.00 per day outside IR35. Key Responsibilities
Coordinate logistics with Project Manager and subcontractors to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment. Conduct pre‑construction site assessments and manage site setup, including temporary facilities, access roads, and laydown areas. Lead and manage on‑site subcontractor teams ensuring efficient workflows for timely completion. Supervise all construction activities, including delivery logistics and materials distribution, groundworks, civil works, structure installation, module mounting, electrical and earthing works, commissioning, and site reinstatement. Collaborate with Principal Designer on development of the Risk Register during pre‑construction and ensure a smooth handover when construction starts. Act as Principal Contractor and ensure all construction activities comply with UK health, safety and environmental regulations, including CDM regulations. Implement and enforce health and safety plans, risk assessments, and method statements (RAMS). Promote a culture of safety and conduct regular toolbox talks focused on daily planned activities and associated risks, site inspections, and incident reporting. Ensure that all work is executed to high standards and in line with Employer Requirements and industry best practices. Provide regular updates to the Project Manager, including progress reports, cost tracking, and risk assessments. Monitor project progress, identify and address potential time and cost overruns. Optimise resource allocation, including manpower, materials, and equipment, to maximise efficiency.
Qualifications & Experience
Proven track record in managing large‑scale solar farm projects, ideally 20MW+. Experience in UK construction practices, regulations and standards, including CDM compliance. Relevant certifications in health and safety (e.g., SMSTS, NEBOSH, IOSH). Desired but not compulsory: Relevant certifications in construction management (e.g., Black Manager's CSCS Card, Gold Supervisor's CSCS Card).
