About the Project
This is a flagship opportunity to work on one of the UK’s most significant and complex infrastructure programmes — the construction of a new nuclear power station and associated facilities in Somerset. The development includes extensive civil engineering, groundworks, modular building installation, logistics and crane-led operations, acting as a pivotal part of the UK’s low carbon energy infrastructure and long-term energy strategy.
Modular and offsite construction techniques are central to the delivery of key site accommodation buildings, welfare facilities, offices and service infrastructure, with modules manufactured offsite, transported and craned into position with precision.
The construction environment is highly dynamic and secure, with strict safety and regulatory requirements, and significant civils and plant coordination demands.
The Company
You will be working with a specialist construction contractor experienced in modular construction, offsite build solutions, commercial and civil engineering delivery across the UK. The business has a strong track record of interfacing with major infrastructure clients and delivering complex builds within regulated environments, including modular accommodation, office and welfare buildings on large industrial and infrastructure sites.
The Role – Site Manager
We are seeking a Site Manager to lead the onsite delivery of civils, groundworks, modular installation and crane operations throughout the project lifecycle. You will take responsibility for all aspects of site delivery — from early mobilisation and ground preparation through to modular placement, integration with civils packages and final handover.
This role requires a proactive, experienced construction professional who is comfortable working in a large-scale, safety-critical environment, managing multiple subcontractors and controlling high-risk activities.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and coordinate day-to-day onsite delivery of civils, modular installation and crane operations
Lead the onsite team, contractors and supply chain to deliver works in line with programme, budget and quality expectations
Oversee all aspects of site health & safety, ensuring compliance with CDM, project standards and security protocols
Coordinate with planners, engineers and the wider project team to integrate works with modular and crane operations
Ensure effective logistics and sequencing for modular deliveries, crane lifts, groundworks and services
Maintain accurate site records, daily diaries, RAMS, reports and progress updates
Chair site meetings and represent the contractor in coordination with client and stakeholder representatives
Address technical challenges, risk management and issue resolution proactively
Candidate Requirements
Proven experience as a Site Manager on large infrastructure, modular or civils projects
Strong understanding of civils, groundworks, modular installation and crane operations
Experience working within secure, regulated environments and with complex logistics
Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills
Ability to work independently and drive quality and safety performance
SMSTS, CSCS + First Aid (essential)
Willingness to undertake project-specific security clearances as required
What’s on Offer
Immediate start on a high-profile, long-term infrastructure project
Competitive freelance rates
The chance to lead delivery of technically challenging works in an iconic programme
Professional and structured project environment
