An exciting opportunity has arisen to meet the growing portfolio of transport planning projects within one of the UK’s leading independent consultancies. PJA provides an integrated approach to Transport, Placemaking and Engineering. The role will require working across a range of different projects, although the focus will be working in our growing public sector facing team.

Our ideal candidate will be educated to degree level or above with experience in Transport Planning in a public sector environment for either a private sector consultancy or public sector body. They should have experience of delivering small and medium sized commissions (depending on experience and role) with only minimal supervision required, and contributing to the delivery of larger commissions. Being technically excellent, and as a confident communicator verbally and in writing, they will be required to present and communicate their ideas clearly and concisely both internally and also to a wide range of external audiences. Chartership with a relevant professional body, or other relevant technical qualifications would be advantageous but not essential.

Based in our Longbridge head office, it would be advantageous (but not essential) to have experience working in the wider midlands public sector market, with existing positive relationships with prospective clients.

There will be opportunities to also work on projects outside of the Midlands and needs arise as part of our national transport planning team.

Other experience/skills we are looking for include:

• Experience in public sector facing transport planning and/or working in a public sector transport planning team
• Experience of a wide range of multi-modal projects including (but not exclusive to): Active Travel, Public Transport, Placemaking, Traffic/demand Management.
• Experience of public sector governance processes and working in a political environment
• Experience in the production of, and providing advice regarding, transport strategies and policies
• Experience of the development of business cases and funding bids, including knowledge of Government Business Case guidance including Green Book and TAG
• Experience of option development including inputting to concept level design
• Experience of using transport modelling within projects (strategic/macro/micro/junction)
• Successful project management experience of relevant projects
• Ability to contribute/lead on bids and financial proposals, including experience of the bidding process for local government projects and/or frameworks
• Knowledge and experience of applying government policy and guidance to projects
• An understanding of the planning process in England
• Excellent communication skills and interface with clients
• Enjoy working in a team environment, sharing knowledge and demonstrate pride in work.
• Willingness to develop and train junior team members, including line management if required.
