Senior/Principal Electrical Engineer - Building Services / Operational Assets (Net Zero, Data & Decarbonisation)\n\nLocation: Manchester\n Salary: Competitive (DOE)\n Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time\n Work Pattern: Option to work a 9-day fortnight\n\nAbout the Role\n\nWe are seeking an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to join a forward-thinking, data-driven Building Services consultancy in Manchester. This is a fantastic opportunity for an electrically biased engineer with strong design experience and a genuine interest in energy, building performance, and decarbonisation.\n\nYou will join the Operational Assets team, working on a wide range of commercial, residential, education, healthcare, retail, and industrial projects. The practice places a strong emphasis on using real metered data, BMS data and performance information from existing buildings to design low-energy, high-performance systems that genuinely support clients on their journey towards net zero.\n\nThe role has evolved to become design-led first, with surveys used specifically to support accurate design rather than forming the bulk of project work.
You will work closely with clients, using building data to size systems correctly, optimise energy performance, and deliver intelligent retrofit and refurbishment strategies.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nCollaborate with a team of 10.\nLead and deliver electrical design projects across the Operational Assets and Building Services sectors.\nProduce electrical design, performance specifications, drawings, and calculations across all RIBA stages.\nUse existing building data, metered information and BMS insights to inform design decisions, improve accuracy, and optimise system sizing.\nSupport clients with refurbishment, retrofit, decarbonisation, and energy efficiency schemes, including net zero pathways.\nProvide consultancy services such as:\nTechnical due diligence surveys\nCondition reports & dilapidations\nPPM schedules & asset registers\nEPC assessments and energy optimisation\nTroubleshooting and issue investigations\nOversee contract administration, site inspections, commissioning, and post-occupancy review.\nPrepare high-quality technical reports, feasibility studies and improvement strategies.\nEngage in client management and help win new work through relationship building.\nMentor junior engineers and support succession planning within the team.\n Requirements\n\nChartered Electrical Engineer (CEng) or actively working towards chartership.\nStrong background in electrical building services design, including refurb, retrofit, and existing buildings.\nUnderstanding of performance-led design, energy modelling and sustainable engineering principles.\nStrong grasp of data, metering, BMS systems and how data informs accurate system design.\nKnowledge of UK Building Regulations, British Standards, and relevant design guides.\nExcellent communication, organisation, and report-writing skills.\nExperience in client-facing roles, work winning and project delivery.\nA proactive, technically strong engineer who can operate independently and lead projects.\n What's on Offer\n\nPermanent position within a respected, worldwide MEP consultancy.\nChance to drive net zero, energy reduction and decarbonisation initiatives across a diverse portfolio.\nA continually growing Operational Assets team with clear pathways for progression.\nA genuinely supportive culture that values accurate design, data insight, and sustainable engineering.\nOpportunity to work a 9-day fortnight, supporting work-life balance.\n If this opportunity is of interest, please get in touch with Rob Jones at Calibre Search on (phone number removed) for more information, or click Apply.\n\nCalibre Search promote equality in the workplace and we welcome applications from all suitably skilled or qualified candidates regardless of their , race, , religion/beliefs, or .
