If you enjoy working in a flexible and dynamic start-up environment and love variety within your role then this senior structural design / mechanical design engineer opportunity would be a great fit.\n\nThe company specialises in wind propulsion systems for the marine sector and due to considerable growth plans, they are looking for a senior structural design engineer / mechanical design engineer to join their team and help drive products from concept through to full scale production.\n\nYour Role: Structural Design Engineer:\n\n * Lead mechanical and structural design of subsystems from concept through manufacturing release\n\n * Produce 3D models, detailed drawings and structural/ thermal FEA calculations to ensure robust designs, design for manufacture (DFM) & continuous improvement are achieved\n\n * Manage design validation, documentation and integration with performance, systems and manufacturing teams\n\n * Champion professional standards of engineering integrity, safety and sustainability within the team (DNV, LR etc)\n\n * As the team and business grows, you will be able to mentor and support junior engineers and take responsibility for whole propulsion system projects\n\nSkills / Knowledge: Structural Design Engineer:\n\n * A good degree in a relevant subject (e.g. mechanical / structural / marine engineering)\n\n * Strong industry experience in either heavy structural design, heavy machinery, wind turbines, cranes, marine, shipping design, capital equipment, hydraulic lifting platforms coupled with good systems knowledge – actuators, gearbox, cooling, control systems etc. This is not just a stand alone structures role.\n\n * Proven industry experience taking a product from concept into full production with good knowledge of DFM, DFA, large welded structures, materials, corrosion, composites and steels etc\n\n * Proven experience of high end 3D solid modelling CAD software (e.g.

Inventor, Unigraphics NX, Solidworks, Creo, Catia or similar)\n\n * Practical, hands on engineering skills would be ideal - ability to build or fabricate systems\n\n * Positive, enthusiastic attitude with a passion for engineering and mechanical product / structural design\n\nThis role sits within a growing start up business so flexibility and an adaptable approach to engineering is required.\n\nThe role offers hybrid working with 2/3 days in the office based around Southampton
